I like to watch the games and games that are well run and officiated.  And we get to know the names when mistakes are made. Just ask former MLB umpires Angel Hernandez who was just plain awful and Jim Joyce who blew a call in the ninth inning and two outs during  Armando Galarraga's perfect game attempt.  In the latter if replay were allowed the perfect game would stand. Joyce would later admit he blew the call and Galarraga was a class act and brought out the lineup card in the next days game offering Joyce his support and forgiveness. In both these cases Bud Selig was commissioner during this tenure.  He never acted on the complaints about Hernandez and he could have corrected the Galarraga perfect game.  The replay was there for everyone to see and the integrity of baseball would not have suffered.  In fact, it was that play that pushed major league baseball to start implementing a replay system for correcting calls.

There is a mess going on in the WNBA.  The one player who brought millions of new fans to the game has been beat up since joining the league.  Flagrant fouls against her not called, flagrant fouls calls made.  Officiating according to a fictitious set of rules that many times does not represent basketball.

This is either at the directive of the commissioner or the commissioner is MIA.  Regardless, Engelbert needs to go.  She is so removed from this happening that when Alyssa Thomas threw a fist into the side of Caitlin Clark and no in game penalty was called it took days and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to light a fire under Engelberts tusch and get Thomas penalized.  Unfortunately if the action would have been called by the refs, it would have had an effect on the game.

Since Englebert needs to be canned, who replaces her?  Does it need to be a woman?  We have already seen a number of women coaches be replaced by guys.  Would this be another situation like that?  Who is available and has the strength to make the corrections needed before the league goes back to being niche entertainment and more opportunities for women athletes get lost?
