She likes her player choices, trades the coach!

It's Too Important

I have been critical about many things in the WNBA.  I admit, Caitlin Clark brought me along from the excitement of Her University of Iowa days.  I had heard of the WNBA but did not know much.  You can find my initial thoughts and history research on the WNBA here.

The format of the WNBA All Start game is take the top two vote getters, Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, and let them pick the teams. The coaches were assigned to the top two vote getters by the WNBA league office, Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx assigned to Clark and Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty to Collier.

The player picking process by Clark and Collier was broadcast on ESPN.  After the teams are picked, the ESPN moderator asked if Clark or Collier would be interested in trading any players.  Both Clark and Collier had their methods for picking players and were quite satisfied. They had control and they got their choices and were pleased.

But Clark came up with the idea to fix what I thought was weird and presented that she would like to trade coaches.  Collier seemed to have no problem with this as Reeve is Colliers coach on the Lynx and Brondello is on a good step with Clark and one of her star players, Sabrina Ionescu is coached by Brondello on the Liberty, is on Clark's team.

This is another indication that I feel Caitlin Clark has more sense than WNBA management.  Having Reeve coach Clark's team brings back memories of the Roller Derby and Professional wrestling. I commend Collier for going along with this.  I have seen a report that Collier and Clark discussed this before the show.
